Backyard Burners are a band from Leeds, UK.
Their sound is bluegrass inspired, but also draws on rock 'n roll, country and punk. The band is comprised of Mark Pugh (banjo) and his son, Lewis (guitar and harmonica) and Sarah Birkett (double bass.) All three sing.
Formed in 2012, the band honed their craft singing country, bluegrass and skiffle songs on various street corners around the north of England. They have since entertained huge crowds at music and beer festivals, taken the roof off in pubs and bars and have instigated many a hoe-down at parties.
The band has a strong DIY ethic and 2015 has already seen 2 releases for them; a digital-only EP to benefit food banks in Leeds and on 15.05.15, they self-released their debut album of mainly original songs, "There's a Box."
Some highlights for the band so far have been Broadstairs Folk Week 2014, Dalesfest in Silsden, and Saltaire Festival. The band have been fortunate enough to support American acts such as The Legendary Shack Shakers, Ragged Union and The Hitman Blues Band.
